Australian music icon and renowned songwriter John Williamson has announced a national tour for 2025. John will also mark this milestone year with a new album. His 21st studio album, How Many Songs, will be released on Friday 4th April via Warner Music.  This is the first new album since 2018’s Butcherbird and is available to pre-order here.

New single ‘If You Wanna Be An Aussie’ is released Friday 17 January.  It is an inclusive and uplifting call to  all Australians to treat everyone with respect and dignity which John cites as the true meaning of ‘the Australian way’.

‘I think we all feel a little worried that we are losing our fair dinkum attitude towards each other here. We are one of the most-free nations in the world and very accepting to newcomers. I wake up every day and feel so lucky to be an Aussie. So why not a song to celebrate and dance to that positive approach?’ – John Williamson

Next week John will be performing ‘If You Wanna Be An Aussie’ at the 2025 Golden Guitar Awards at the Tamworth Country Music FestivalListen to it HERE, where he is also nominated for Heritage Song of the Year for last year’s single ‘Be A Part Of This Land’.

‘If You Wanna Be An Aussie’ joins previous singles on the album, namely ‘Uluru Forever’, ‘Come Back To Me Country’, ‘Waiting For The Sun’ and title track, ‘How Many Songs’. The twelve-track collection perfectly adds to his legacy with songs that amplify his legendary storytelling.

‘It’s the final track that asks “how many more songs can I write”? I am well aware that my audience includes the whole family. How do I know? Well, just look at who turns up at my shows. ‘Beautiful Words’ is a song thanking my fans. I hope the songs will all be sung in the car, as Aussies enjoy our amazing country.’ – John Williamson

2025 is a landmark year for John Williamson. It marks John’s 55th year in the music industry. He will also turn eighty in November. Twenty-five, fifty-five, eighty. From his humble beginnings as the son of a wheat farmer in the small Victorian Mallee town of Quambatook, it’s quite an achievement.

‘It’s hard to believe it’s 55 years since I released ‘Old Man Emu’. So, it seems fitting to make a fuss about it after COVID messed up my 50th year celebrations and touring. So, here I go again, one more time around Australia. I’m excited to be releasing How Many Songs and a new kids picture book this year. That means I’ll have some new songs to add to the show plus the old favourites I can’t leave out. It’s hard to stop when I keep people smiling.’ – John Williamson

In 2022 John was honoured with a life-sized bronze statue in the main street of Tamworth, NSW. He has twenty-eight Golden Guitars, six ARIA awards, an Order of Australia, inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Australian Roll of Renown. He has sold over five million albums and achieved a hundred million music streams.
