Aria Hall-of-Famers, Daryl Braithwaite and Russell Morris will join forces with music giants Jack Jones (Southern Sons) and Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc) to perform all their greatest hits in three standout shows at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall, Sydney’s State Theatre and Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall in late January / early February 2023. Appearing as The Fabulous Caprettos, Australia’s latest supergroup will perform together for the entire concert, combining their unique musical virtuosities to reimagine some of Australian rock music history’s most memorable moments from the 60s to the 00s.
“The group’s name comes from a band in-joke,” explains Daryl. “Someone jokingly referred to us as the “greatest of all time” or GOAT, but we didn’t want to appear egotistical. So, we replaced the acronym with the Italian word for goat—capretto.”
The four friends will play a selection of their favourite songs, including Daryl Braithwaite’s iconic The Horses, As the Days Go By, and One Summer, Russell Morris’ spirit of the 60s anthems, The Real Thing and Sweet Sweet Love.
Southern Sons hits Hold Me in Your Arms, Always and Ever, Heart of Danger, Thirsty Merc pop songs, In the Summertime, 20 Good Reasons, Mousetrap Heart, and Someday, Someday join the line-up, as well as a selection of Fabulous Caprettos originals.
“The boys and I absolutely love playing together as The Fabulous Caprettos,” says Russell. “It breathes new life into all our hit songs when we play them together.”
This is a show for dedicated music lovers by four of Australia’s most respected musicians.
Singer-songwriter and guitarist Russell Morris has been crafting hits since 1966 and shows no sign of slowing down. His recent foray with Rick Springfield in The Morris Springfield Project saw him pen yet another chart busting hit last year, Jack Chrome and the Darkness Waltz.
Daryl Braithwaite’s career is almost as long. As the lead singer of superstar group, Sherbet, he clocked 20 national chart hits in the 70s and even more as a solo artist, culminating in 1992’s highest-selling single, The Horses.
Two times Platinum, 8 times Gold, APRA award-winning, and probably Australia’s greatest singing guitar player, Jack Jones, has entertained audiences across Australia and the globe with 90s rock giants Southern Sons. And in addition to platinum award-winning Thirsty Merc’s stellar career, rock, pop and jazz musician and songwriter Rai Thistlethwayte has carved an extraordinary solo career under the name Sun Rai.
